Mark and Ruth were really friendly and so kind, they went above and beyond to make our kids feel special and embrace the magic of childhood. We will be back as soon as we can!

It is a perfect base for trips to the many attractions within the Lake District. The two beaches are idyllic - our daughters enjoyed many hours splashing in the water and exploring the woods. It is the stuff of Arthur Ransome. The cottage itself is very comfortable, with all conveniences one would hope for. As a period property it is full of character and charm. Ruth and Mark were wonderful hosts who made us feel very welcome. We cannot wait to go back.

Ruth and Mark were fantastic hosts. We were lucky to meet Ruth when we first arrived and she showed us around the land. They were really helpful with any questions we had.   Easily the best place we've ever stayed. It felt genuinely magical. I swam in the lake every day. We played games, looked for fairies and experimented with the marble run... read more in the woods. The stargazing was sensational. We made full use of the hot tub. Michael and Ruth were incredibly welcoming, thoughtful and jolly.We got a train to Windermere and a taxi to the cottage but I think it would have been fine to get the bus. We had friends come over to drive us around and there was loads to do within a 10-20 minute drive. We climbed Orrest Head and Gummer's How with our four year old. Incredibly well equipped and very cosy yet practical. It was really nice to stay somewhere that felt genuinely lived in and homely. Excellent book and DVD collection. Our son was overjoyed by the extensive toys and games in the cottage. We had lovely weather but if it had rained every day there would still have been enough to do inside. We had everything we needed to cook. We could have stayed for weeks.

The hot tub was a real highlight and perfect for relaxing in the evenings after a day out.Mark and Ruth were incredibly friendly, welcoming and attentive throughout, ensuring everything ran smoothly from start to finish. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend a stay here.

We were here for Christmas and our hosts Ruth and Mark had put up Christmas decorations which our boys loved. I greatly appreciated the extra care and detail that had gone into making it a special experience especially for our children. On Christmas Day we spent the entire day in the woods and by the lake but it is also really close to all the larger towns around the lake. I also thought the cottage is bigger than it looks in the pictures.

  We booked this stay away for our ‘Girls weekend’ a year ago, wanting somewhere where we could batten down the hatches and not leave the site if the weather turned... read more on us. I wanted a hot tub to just wallow in and really relax. Tower Wood Cottage ticked every box. Quirky decor but very homely and there was plenty of space for the four adults. The garden/meadow/wood area that took you down to the edge of Windermere was so peaceful and serene, it was beautiful. The bedrooms were comfy and, although there was no central heating, they were cosy and none of us felt the cold. Throughout the house are really clear instructions for things like the wood burner and the radiators/hot water, then tuck shop and the hot tub.The hot tub was just outside the back door and was brilliant! Lovely and hot, really clean and just a joy to get into after a week at work and a Friday journey!Communication from Mark & Ruth was amazing as well, from start to finish. Prompt, friendly and helpful. Thank you both x
