Mark and Ruth welcomed us on arrival and were very helpful ensuring we didn't get lost on our walk to the Masons Arms (they literally went the extra mile or two). The cottage and surrounding woods, lake private beach were peaceful and we enjoyed some celebratory champagne at Beach 2, which was idyllic. The hot tub was excellent. The extensive gardens including woodland, a downhill stream/rockpools and two private lakeside beaches brought the wow factor that separates this stay from anywhere we’ve ever stayed before. The girls likened the stream to ‘the creek’ from Bluey and loved venturing up and down it in their water shoes. We all swam every day in the lake with a hot tub treat to warm the bones afterwards. An unforgettably special moment for me was when a stag bounded through the bracken and stopped to look at me as I took a sole stroll at the top of the garden. You really can’t help but feel the thrum of nature’s magic here.

In the... read more summer the Lakes can get very busy but at the cottage this didn’t matter. If you love the woods and the lake it’s all there. No need to race around trying to park. Two teen boys had plenty to do, while we read and painted. Gorgeous, most relaxing holiday I’ve had in ages. I would definitely recommend. It’s a destination not just a house.

The table tennis table was an added bonus for me and my son. It's fifteen minutes drive into Windermere, five minutes to Fell Foot national trust park (with the most beautiful parkrun we've ever done). You're twenty minutes drive from Cartmel and the lunch deal at Rogan and Co, close to golf courses (Grange Oversands was welcoming), Beatrix Potter's house and of course all of the walking you can want. From the house there's a three mile walk to a great pub.

Even though they live next door, they gave us plenty of privacy and we barely saw them during our stay.The only thing I'd warn future guests about is if you're 6'7" like me... prepare to become well acquainted with a few of the wood beams and door frames! 😄 That's all part of the charm of such a beautiful old cottage though. All in all, a fantastic week woth friends and a beautiful place to get together.

Sitting in the hammock overlooking the lake is quite possibly the most relaxing place in the world! Being able to leave our paddleboard and canoe by beach was great. We picnicked and barbecued there. We were very lucky with the weather and swam daily (water shoes recommended as pebbly). The cottage was lovely and cool in the heat and fully equipped with everything we needed. Mark and Ruth’s communication before we arrived and during our stay was perfect. Would highly recommend to families and groups of friends. Already working out when we can come back!

It is a perfect base for trips to the many attractions within the Lake District. The two beaches are idyllic - our daughters enjoyed many hours splashing in the water and exploring the woods. It is the stuff of Arthur Ransome. The cottage itself is very comfortable, with all conveniences one would hope for. As a period property it is full of character and charm. Ruth and Mark were wonderful hosts who made us feel very welcome. We cannot wait to go back.

The stargazing was sensational. We made full use of the hot tub. Michael and Ruth were incredibly welcoming, thoughtful and jolly.We got a train to Windermere and a taxi to the cottage but I think it would have been fine to get the bus. We had friends come over to drive us around and there was loads to do within a 10-20 minute drive. We climbed Orrest Head and Gummer's How with our four year old. Incredibly well equipped and very cosy yet practical. It was really nice to stay somewhere that felt genuinely lived in and homely. Excellent book and DVD collection. Our son was overjoyed by the extensive toys and games in the cottage. We had lovely weather but if it had rained every day there would still have been enough to do inside. We had everything we needed to cook. We could have stayed for weeks.
